Add your own sites and routes
Import a CSV, GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, GPX or zipped Shapefile; what happens to it.
What you get: Your facilities, routes or areas drawn on the map, and checked against hazards while the map is open.
Before you start
- A file of your locations. For points, the simplest is a CSV with a header row: name, lat, lon are required; id, type, status, owner and updated_at are optional. Download a sample CSV (three made-up sites).
- No account is needed to import. Plan limits on tracked sites are described on Plans.
Steps
- Choose File → "Import data…" and pick the file. The file is read in this browser; nothing is uploaded.
- A CSV of points becomes "Your data" sites; other formats become a layer of their own, named after the file.
- Find them in the "Your data" section of the "LAYERS" panel. Each imported layer lists how many features it holds and anything it could not use.
- Click an imported feature to see its own attributes.
What success looks like
Your sites appear, drawn violet with a long dash and hollow: the mark for something you supplied rather than something a feed observed.
Limits to know
- A row with no usable coordinate is dropped and counted, never placed at 0,0. A Shapefile in a projected coordinate system is refused rather than drawn in the wrong place.
- Imported data is saved in this browser. When you are signed in, your imported sites are also kept on your account and follow you to another browser.
- Imported data never travels in a share link.
If something is wrong
- "No valid rows … Required columns: name, lat, lon."
- Check the header row spells the columns exactly (latitude and longitude are accepted too) and that each row has a name and numeric coordinates.
- My sites are in the ocean off Africa.
- The coordinates were read as 0. Check for empty or text cells in lat and lon.
