Desks, panels, tabs and workspaces: what each changes
Four words that are easy to mix up, and exactly what each one controls.
What you get: You know which control to reach for: a desk changes the layers on the map; a workspace changes the panels around it.
Steps
- To change the map's layers, use a desk (Desks menu) or the "LAYERS" panel.
- To add a panel, use Layers → "Data panels" and choose one; the dock opens with it.
- To start a new arrangement, use Workspaces → "New from preset".

Workspaces
Workspaces → "New from preset" creates a new arrangement without erasing the current one: Crisis Desk, Global Watch, Severe Weather, Aviation Operations, Maritime & Supply Chain, Country Brief and Organization Operations. "Manage workspaces…" opens the studio, where you add, remove, move, resize, rename and pin panels, duplicate or delete a workspace, and export or import one as JSON.
On a narrow screen the workspace shows a VIEW ONLY badge: you can read, scroll and share, but not rearrange. The desktop layout is kept.
What success looks like
The map layers and the panel arrangement each changed only when you meant them to.
Limits to know
- Workspaces live in this browser. They are copied to your account once, at first sign-in, if the account has none; after that they are not kept in step.
- View → "Reset layer panel size" returns the layer panel to its designed size; it does not reset workspaces.
