Israel, Gaza and Lebanon

The war began with Hamas's attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023 and Israel's campaign in Gaza that followed. Hezbollah opened a front on the Lebanon border the next day; a year later that front became an Israeli air and ground campaign in Lebanon. Ceasefires have since been agreed and strained on both fronts. The feeds below carry the current state rather than a narrative of it: recorded events in the last 30 days, displacement as IDMC publishes it, and the three desks.

Reading the last 30 days…

Two different counts. “Still displaced” is the stock IDMC records at year end; “newly displaced” is the flow during that year. The flow can exceed the stock when people return within the year, which is what Russia’s figures show.
