Armed coalitions took control of most of Port-au-Prince, closing the airport and the main port for periods in 2024. A Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support mission, authorised by the UN Security Council in October 2023, deployed from mid-2024. The UN reports mass displacement inside the country and famine-level food insecurity in parts of the capital.
